FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid
If you are planning to attend a 2-year, 4-year, or technical college, and would like to receive need-based loans, grants, or work study money, you must complete the FAFSA.
You will need the following information to complete the FAFSA:
- YOUR COMPUTER
- Social Security Numbers and birthdates for your PARENT and YOU
- A working email for your PARENT and YOU (not school email)
- List of colleges and universities you applied to
Once you have gathered your documents, you are ready to create your FSA ID at https://studentaid.gov. Both the parent AND the student must have an FSA ID. Here is a worksheet to help guide you as you create your FSA ID. Save this worksheet in a secure location as you will need it EVERY YEAR when you apply for financial aid.
Now that you have your FSA ID's, you are ready to complete the FAFSA here.
You will receive the SAR (Student Aid Report) within three days. Check with your college’s financial aid office to see if they have additional financial aid forms for you to complete. Between November and January, you will receive an award letter from the school you have applied to that specifies the type of aid you are eligible for. Final letters will be available in late spring.
